Brentwood, Essex – November 17, 2006 – Canterbury City Council’s Document Imaging Services (DIS) department has further increased its productivity and capabilities, while saving council tax payers around £30,000 a year, as a result of a 5 year investment in Océ printing systems.

The department, which prints everything from posters and leaflets to booklets across the whole council, purchased six advanced printing systems - a CPS800; two VarioPrint2100s; a CS230; a VarioPrint 2070; TCS400 – and Océ’s DocWorks software as part of stage one of its print strategy.

The CPS800 has allowed short-run colour graphic work to be brought in-house.   It is now managed through a service level agreement with the council’s graphics department and equates to a 100% increase in colour graphics printing.  The VarioPrint 2100’s are also making a big impact.  Current estimates suggest they will produce 5.5m black and white documents this year, one million more than the department’s two previous machines.  In total, it is estimated this investment will save £30,000 a year of tax-payers’ money.

Colin Kibble, DIS and Central Purchasing Manager, Canterbury City Council said: “We have developed a print strategy to make sure that our printing services are the highest quality and most cost effective that the council has access to.  As part of the strategy, we worked in partnership with Océ to carry out an audit of our print capabilities and workflow.  When it came to choosing the hardware, we realised that we needed printers that could copy, not copiers that could print, as we had previously.  The Océ solution provided us with a professional print capability that will take us into the future, which is likely to see an increase in e-government initiatives and electronic job submission.

“We have built up a strong relationship with Océ and we look forward to continuing to work together to deliver the council’s ongoing print requirements.”

Roy Bartholomew, Océ UK’s National Sales Manager for the Public Sector, said: “Canterbury City Council has a very mature approach to printing.  Its well developed print strategy allowed us to make the best recommendations to meet its specific requirements, and as a result, it is already benefiting.  We are confident the DIS department will quickly maximise the potential of the Océ devices and continue to deliver high quality printed products for the council.”
