Developer is a mixture of powder toner with ferrite particles. It is not hazardous within the meaning of the COSHH Regulations and operator contact is minimal.
Machines which use the patented Océ 'Copy Press' system have a mono-component developing system and do not have a separate developer. Model numbers using this system are:

We recommend that no special protection is required by the operator for the normal use for which the machine is intended.
Of course, there always remains the possibility that certain individuals may have unusual sensitivity, perhaps in combination with other materials or medication, but the probability is slight.
The developer is readily biodegradable and should not disturb water purification installations. The small quantities of waste solution arising from operation of the machine can be flushed to the sewer.
Note that the developer contains a dye which cannot easily be removed and therefore care should be taken not to spill it on carpets etc. If moving a machine, be aware that even after the concentrate bottle has been removed and the working solution drained off, there remains a small reservoir of concentrate which can spill if the machine is tilted.
