Océ Sustainability Report 2003

The main purpose of this Corporate Sustainability Report is to explain to all stakeholders what Océ is actually doing to safeguard its sustainability for the future: the goals to which Océ subscribes, the policies developed to achieve these goals, and the measures taken to alert Océ employees and partners to its goals and to ensure that they work in accordance with Océ policies.

To this end, reporting activities have been upgraded in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Global Reporting Initiative [GRI].
These guidelines serve as a framework for reporting and offer a structure for policies, procedures and organization.

Compared with previous reports, the scope of the present report has been extended to cover the two most important supply centres, located in Venlo, the Netherlands, and Poing, Germany.
  • In Venlo, which is also the headquarters of the Océ Group, Océ Technologies B.V. comprises corporate support departments, the head office of the Wide-Format Printing Systems strategic business unit, and R&D, manufacturing and logistics activities.
  • In Poing, Océ Printing Systems G.m.b.H. performs R&D, manufacturing and logistics activities. Poing is also the head office of the Digital Document Systems strategic business unit.

With these two supply centres this report covers about 90% of Océ's innovation and production activities worldwide. This is the last step in the preparation of a full Corporate Sustainability Report on 2004, which should be ready by mid-2005. This will also include information on the activities of our main operating companies.

The Océ sustainability strategy and policy is based on the following cornerstones:

  • reporting on policies, procedures and measurements in accordance with GRI standards;
  • formulating our own targets for the relevant GRI performance indicators;
  • translating policies into organizational structures and procedures;
  • incorporating sustainability issues into the business models and strategic planning cycles for the two strategic business units;
  • performing internal and/or external auditing procedures.

All sustainability-related aspects are coordinated at corporate level. The Corporate Board has accepted full responsibility for all sustainability issues throughout the company.

The Corporate Board has delegated accountability for product safety to the two R&D directors in Venlo [wide-format and cutsheet products] and Poing [continuous-feed products]. The boards of directors of Océ Technologies B.V. in Venlo and Océ Printing Systems G.m.b.H. in Poing are responsible for health, safety and environmental protection.

A Corporate Sustainability Forum was set up to advise the Board on all sustainability issues, including organization, policies, procedures and reporting systems. Its primary goal is to secure a 'license to operate' from all stakeholders.
