In order to execute the XPe security patches it is necessary to have access to the desktop of the XPe based controllers. On Océ controllers that are equiped with monitor, keyboard and mouse, this is not a problem. For Océ controllers that do not have a monitor keyboard and mouse connected, the desktop has to be accessed remotely.
Remote access is achieved using Microsoft Remote Desktop software. The Microsoft Remote Desktop software is by default available on XP professional systems. If you plan to perform the remote access from a system with another operating system, you first need to download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop software from the Microsoft site. |
If the Remote Desktop software is installed, the remote access has to be enabled on the Océ controller. Enabling and disabling of the remote access possibility is realised with two patches that can be found on this page.
Activate remote management by starting the Remote Desktop Connection software which is located in the Communications subdirectory of the Accessoires directory.
Specify the IP address of the Océ controller and press Connect. Follow the instructions to get the connection up and running.
Once connected with administrator rights, you are able to remotely control the Océ controller as if it was equiped with a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
WARNING: Be aware that you are working on a print controller. Although it looks like a normal PC, its coding is adapted to maximise print job throughput. Any changes to the system might lead to a decreased performance, or even to a hang up. Any service calls caused by invalid actions on the controller may lead to additional charges for restoring the system.
