Newspapers produced on the Océ VarioStream range are printed on the same newsprint stock as the main offset run, which gives them the look and feel of a conventional daily. The most common types of newsprint, UPM, Norske Skog, SCA Graphic and Stora Enso, have all been tested for digital printing in the Océ paper laboratory. Via a supply agreement with Océ DNN you will receive daily the PDF newspaper files from the publisher as well as production volume for the edition. The latest editions of newspapers are sent in PDF files directly to your server, as well as the Océ DNN central server in Munich. Secure Internet or data communication lines are used throughout. The newspapers are then forwarded into the classical distribution channel. Printed on recto and verso sides, the newspapers can be finished in-line and fully automated, or for smaller volumes using cost efficient industry standard folding equipment. The in-line system produces signatures which are collected into sections of the requisite number of pages and then folded. The sections are gathered to create finished newspapers, and each copy receives its second fold before it comes off the production line, finished and ready for distribution.
