Print service providers—print locally, gain customers globally

Open a new market with the Digital Newspaper Network

The time publishers have to spend getting the papers to destinations all over the globe means news will often be stale before it reaches its audience. The Océ Digital Newspaper Network gives you as a print provider an exciting new market opportunity: to print short runs of international newspapers with proven technology - the Océ continuous feed range; Océ VarioStream7000 and Océ VarioStream 9000.

Generate additional order volume

Your new opportunity: digital printing of international newspapers on genuine newsprint. Presenting the Océ Newspaper System range. At the centre of this groundbreaking solution for online digital newspaper production is the Océ VarioStream 7000 and 9000 range of continuous feed production systems, working with proven finishing modules from the world´s leading suppliers. Engineered specifically for printing newspapers, the finishing system can turn out up to 1,200 ready-finished 24-page newspapers per hour in 18.25" x 12.5" format. If you already have an Océ Demandstream system, you can upgrade it and also integrate the special finishing equipment.

Offer marketable products with genuine appeal

Newspapers produced on the Océ VarioStream range are printed on the same newsprint stock as the main offset run, which gives them the look and feel of a conventional daily. The most common types of newsprint, UPM, Norske Skog, SCA Graphic and Stora Enso, have all been tested for digital printing in the Océ paper laboratory. Via a supply agreement with Océ DNN you will receive daily the PDF newspaper files from the publisher as well as production volume for the edition. Within minutes of data receipt you will be ready to run. You can further extend your market by seeking local opportunities for newspaper application.

Secure your competitive edge

The latest editions of newspapers are sent in PDF files directly to your server, as well as the Océ DNN central server in Munich. Secure Internet or data communication lines are used throughout. The data arrives precisely on schedule and ready-to-print; you produce the requisite run length on demand and make the finished newspapers ready for collection by the local distributor. The newspapers are then forwarded into the classical distribution channel. Newsstand or subscription sales alike, readers everywhere get their newspapers in the accustomed quality, early in the morning on the same day as the readers of the national edition.

A new application for your business, one that introduces regular print volumes... virtually every day.

Optimise productivity through flexibility and automation

Printed on recto and verso sides, the newspapers can be finished in-line and fully automated, or for smaller volumes using cost efficient industry standard folding equipment. The in-line system produces signatures which are collected into sections of the requisite number of pages and then folded. The sections are gathered to create finished newspapers, and each copy receives its second fold before it comes off the production line, finished and ready for distribution. Lengths of between 8 and 96 pages are possible on-line, with a variable number of sections. And this innovative Océ solution offers two other decisive benefits:
  • On-the-fly job changeovers at full-rated production speed
  • The ability to insert supplements and pre-prints into newspapers on the delivery belt-for even more pages per newspaper
