Océ VarioStream 9240 with colour innovation

Océ presents a new dimension in duplex printing with the VarioStream 9240

Poing, Germany, 6 March 2007 — At this year's OpenHouse, Océ is unveiling another highlight in its VarioStream 9000 series: the VarioStream 9240 continuous-fed digital press offers all the flexibility and reliability of its predecessors, complemented by colour printing capability. Exemplifying the concept of "Job Appropriate Colour", the printing system operates with maximum cost efficiency no matter what the application.

Black & white, one spot colour or two, or C/M/Y/K four-colour process printing — with a versatile, specially graduated colour printing concept on a single unified platform, the Océ VarioStream 9240 can print them all. Its groundbreaking ability to print complex colour content enables it to reproduce illustrations, tables and graphics without compromising on the fine detail. High productivity, combined with best-balance costs, make the printing system an appealing choice for all high volume applications and especially for transaction printing.

Best possible balance between colour and cost

This value is reinforced by Job Appropriate Colour, an innovative solution that gets the trade-off between colour use and cost exactly right. The principle is simple: the use of colour is varied to match the needs of the print application. The document producer indicates what level of colour is right for the job, and the flexible system ensures that exactly the right amount of colour is deployed to achieve the intended outcome. This delivers significant savings over dedicated colour printing systems, without compromising in any way on the quality.

More attention from end users

Once prints get to end users, the benefits of the VarioStream 9000 are apparent at a glance. With colour to accentuate details, key information can be identified instantly. The payback is positive for the senders: colour-accentuated bills tend to be paid more promptly, for instance, and direct mail achieves better response rates using the new opportunities of individualised full-colour layouts. Toner-based digital printing is now also a viable option for applications with design elements in full colour — such as newspapers, books and documentation and many other print-on-demand applications.

Océ Custom Tone puts individual colour on the map

The VarioStream 9000 series can be equipped with the acclaimed Océ CustomTone technology, with its wide range of ready-made and mixed-to-order custom colours as add-ons for the print process. This is a tested and efficient solution for custom colour, especially for applications which have to match corporate identity guidelines or include a particular spot colour.

Brilliantly sharp photos with GraphicArtsplus

Another added-value feature of the VarioStream 9000 series is GraphicArtsplus (dot modulation), a special imaging technique which delivers brilliantly sharp reproduction for black & white images by varying the luminescence of each LED — over 11,000 in all — in the image generator. The outcome: images can be printed with much more photorealism, which is essential for reproduction in documents such as high profile special-interest publications that require excellent-quality black & white reproduction of photos and graphics.

Development outlook

The next groundbreaking development in the Océ VarioStream 9000 line-up is already awaiting its cue, with the announcement scheduled for the March 2007 OpenHouse. The next VarioStream 9000 is a system for ultra-productive output, raising the print speed benchmark by over 50 per cent to 1270 A4 or 1350 letter size ppm 2-up. With this level of performance in sight, the Océ VarioStream 9000 series is set for ultra-high productivity in black & white printing. Printers can be upgraded on-site with functions such as Océ CustomTone, giving customers utmost security for their investment and maximum flexibility.

Step by step to success

A versatile continuous-fed digital press that is an ideal answer to the challenges in the years ahead, the Océ VarioStream 9000 series enables customers to begin by investing in a basic solution and gradually expand it as their requirements evolve. The printing systems can be combined with a variety of pre- and post-processing modules and, thanks to their UP³I capability, they integrate perfectly into highly automated production lines. With their ability to handle such a wide range of applications, the Océ VarioStream 9000 systems are equally at home in commercial and in corporate printing environments — at graphic arts companies and print service providers as well as in banks, insurance companies and public administration.
