Latest version improves workflow, reduces print errors and saves time for reprographers and their clients using Océ 9000 series printing systems
Chicago, 22 July 2003—Océ (Nasdaq: OCENY), a leading supplier of digital document management and delivery technology, announces the latest release of Océ Repro Desk 4.30.5 software—a Microsoft® Windows®—based print automation solution designed for use with the Océ 9000 series (Océ 9400, Océ 9600 and Océ 9800) range of digital printing systems. Océ Repro Desk software is the most widely used print submission solution in the U.S. for reprographers and their architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) clients. This latest upgrade demonstrates Océ's continued commitment to enhancing the Océ Repro Desk software line with time-saving features and improved workflow at both the client and reprographer levels.

This software offers many productivity benefits over traditional plot submission. For the client user, Océ Repro Desk Remote Client 4.30.5 software is a highly efficient job ticket creation, viewer and submission tool. Users of the Océ Repro Desk Remote Client 4.30.5 software can assemble a set of files for printing, pre-determine output options, preview drawings exactly as they will be printed, complete a job ticket, and submit the set electronically to their reprographer for printing. Océ Repro Desk software provides full "what you see is what you print" (WYSIWYP) functionality, allowing the client to preview print jobs on his/her desktop before transmitting them to the reprographer via FTP, modem or diskettes.

For the reprographer, Océ Repro Desk software enables them to receive, preview, route and output jobs as well as log print statistics. This new release improves workflow, reduces print errors and provides additional print revenue growth opportunities.

New features of Océ Repro Desk 4.30.5 software include:

  • Enhanced color printing—With HPGL pass-through, users can submit unprocessed color HPGL and HPGL/2 files to any large format color printer enabling color matching to be done by the destination printer's controller. Reprographers now can accept "mixed" jobs, where one set may need to be printed in color and other multiple sets printed in monochrome on an Océ printer.
  • Weekly account reporting—This feature gives reprographers the option to produce weekly accounting reports in addition to the current monthly reporting functionality. This weekly option prevents the accounting database file from becoming too large. This is especially valuable in facilities management installations or when Océ Repro Desk software is used to track printing at the reprographer's shop. A robust accounting application is embedded in Océ Repro Desk software allowing for complete tracking and control of print jobs for cost recovery and billing.
  • Enhanced auto print queue behavior—This functionality improves the way jobs are handled when there is a media mismatch, size mismatch or empty roll.
  • Automatic back-up file creation—Océ Repro Desk software now creates a backup folder in the main Océ Repro Desk software directory, which contains backups of all relevant Océ Repro Desk software configuration files. This comes in handy when troubleshooting installations or when relocating Océ Repro Desk software from one computer to another as would be likely in system upgrades.
  • Improved stability—Océ Repro Desk software for the Océ 9600 is extremely stable because of  enhancements made to the device driver.
  • Improved e-mail notification for clients—When Océ Repro Desk Remote Client users mark "Send E-mail Notification" when a job is printed or received as part of their work order submission, the server will now only reply with an e-mail when the job is received, eliminating unnecessary duplicate e-mails.

"We are pleased to introduce Océ's first major update to the Océ Repro Desk 4.30 line of software," said Joyce Virnich, vice president of marketing for the Océ-USA, Inc. Wide Format Printing Systems business unit. "The newly automated features give reprographers and their  clients better control over their digital print jobs and provide tighter accountability in electronic document submission, processing and tracking. Finding new ways to improve efficiencies and save time will help strengthen reprographer/customer relations and ultimately expand business in today's challenging economy."
