Give commercial printers better scanning
Birmingham, April 9, 2002 — Océ showcases its first demonstration of new scan solution with DocSetter, an advanced tool for scanning and editing hardcopy documents and Document Scanstation, a high performance scanner using Océ’s ImageLogic technology. Building on Océ’s commitment to Open System platforms, commercial printers can now accept scanned images from any source and streamline the make ready process using original masters, surveys, engineering drawings, photos, signatures and other components needed for digital documents.

DocSetter is an enhancement to the PRISMAproduction module and joins the full line of front-end software, versatile digital presses and advanced finishing equipment that have made Océ a leader in the digital printing marketplace.

As traditional print operations transition to digital capabilities, DocSetter brings hardcopy elements into the new workflow. In the past, operations were unable to accommodate these materials, excluding commercial printers from certain applications and customers. The scanned images can be manipulated for maximum quality, with simple, flexible handling when time is at a premium. Materials that might have been sent out to a third party for digitizing can now be handled in-house for less cost.

"With DocSetter Océ is complementing their product and solution range with a professional production scanning system for the commercial graphic arts and corporate printing markets," said Marco Janschke, Océ international product manager. "With this scan solution Océ enables commercial printers and service providers to capture new business opportunities and offer added value services to their customers. They can cope with the constant management challenge of accepting anything the customer brings and nevertheless reproducing it with excellent print quality." In Hall 18, Booth 531 at IPEX, the scan solution is featured in an application that highlights Océ capabilities at critical points in a typical digital printing workflow.

After scanning into DocSetter, materials can be stored as a library of images to be included in applications, or submitted to a PRISMAproduction server for printing. Operations gain better quality control and more flexibility with images after they are scanned. Quality enhancing make ready capa-bilities include image sizing, cropping and editing. Consistent with Océ’s open approach, it can import a variety of data formats, including TIFF, PDF, PostScript and JPEG.

DocSetter expands capabilities of the Océ PRISMA suite to better enable users to create, maintain, convert, view and proof information. DocSetter integrates smoothly with the PRISMA production system and Demandstream printers, increasing overall productivity and output flexibility.

The Document Scanstation is a high performance scanner with excellent fully automatic image processing. The advantage is the fully automatic and therefore effortless scan process with uniformly high quality of all objects on a page throughout the entire document with 600 dpi output resolution and always at the maximum scan speed of 54 ipm simplex and 41 ipm duplex. The duty cycle is 100,000 scans per month.

The scan solution, called Océ Scanstation 650, will be available in the third quarter of 2002.
