A continuous feed printing system that’s an all-round winner With an increase in high volume work and a need to upgrade printing facilities, SecurityMail installed an Océ Demandstream® 8090 continuous feed printer in their Sydney premises. ‘We were attracted by its speed, productivity, total cost of ownership and uniformity of output’, says Mazurkiewicz. With 40,000 variable impressions an hour, full duplex processing and variable paper sizes, Océ Demandstream 8090 is a winner for both SecurityMail and their customers. The company is now running the system around the clock and print runs of 350,000 impressions per shift are not uncommon.
Increasing print capacity and expanding into new markets ‘What we have gained is speed’, says John Petri, SecurityMail’s New South Wales Operations Manager. Very longs runs can now be solely done on the Océ Demandstream 8090 which frees up other machines. The system’s flexibility in terms of paper sizes and stocks means customers can also be more creative with their documents. And the versatility of output plus the gains in print capacity has facilitated SecurityMail’s expansion into new markets like newspaper printing, voting services and gift vouchers.
Growing demand for high-quality, cost-effective colour As well as offering new services, SecurityMail is also investing in colour as more and more customers demand vibrant images in their mailings. Previously though, the company’s colour printer was not cost effective enough to enable them to quote on high-quality colour jobs. Problems with toner cracking when colour documents were folded also caused expensive reprints. ‘We wanted the quality and finish of commercial offset but we also needed the convenience and versatility of digital printing’, explains Brent McCulloch, Branch Manager at SecurityMail’s Melbourne facility.
A productive colour system that generates businessTo meet their colour demands, SecurityMail added an Océ CPS700 to the Melbourne branch. The system’s monolayer printing technology has solved the problem of toner cracking and cost-efficiency has improved dramatically. ‘We’re now quoting on jobs we might not have won previously’, says McCulloch. The Océ CPS700’s short-run, on-demand productivity enables SecurityMail customers to use colour in documents targeted at small market segments. As a result SecurityMail saw its monthly colour output rise from a projected 60,000 impressions to a staggering 140,000 in the system’s first month of service.
A strong partner for future growth Throughout the installation of both systems, SecurityMail were impressed by Océ’s professional approach. ‘We are delighted with the equipment and the way it has been supported by Océ’, says Stefan Mazurkiewicz. But it’s the way Océ works with them to develop innovative solutions for the mailing market that is having the biggest impact. ‘They are helping us position ourselves as Australia’s leading and most technologically advanced mailing company.’
