Economical in-house digital printing Until recently, the bank used to keep 50 different offset pre-printed forms in stock for printing on its cutsheet or continuous-feed printers. “The result was high inventory costs, and the entire procedure was inconvenient. Once the forms were printed, we couldn’t make any changes, so we would often end up pulping the entire stock,” explains Anton Johann Brugger, head of the HypoVereins-bank’s Munich print centre.
The bank has used Océ printing systems since 1979. Today, the four print centres have some 25 continuous feed printers, 12 of which are in the Munich headquarters. In 2000 the bank decided to restructure its production work-flows. Instead of using small batches of pre-printed forms, the bank now prints straight onto blank stock—with Océ CustomTone to print the digital colour forms. “Now the entire workflow is digital and runs on various Océ Pagestream® continuous feed printers,“ adds Brugger. “With the Océ PagestreamDSC we can even print the front and back of the paper in black and corporate colour”. To obtain the HypoVereinsbank’s special corporate blue, the bank decided on Océ CustomTone Special: the custom matched colour toner.
“It was important for the corporate colour to be consistent in order to reflect the consistency of our corporate image,” says Brugger. Within four weeks, Océ develops the specific corporate colours on the basis of standard colour samplers. A control system at the Poing production facility tracks the entire production workflow and guarantees excellent product quality.
Thanks to Océ CustomTone, HypoVereins-bank can now dispense with some 35 pre-printed forms and use blank stock instead. “With the help of CustomTone we can print our logo in HypoVereinsbank blue, accentuate special sections of text with colour and create whole documents in exactly the way we would like. Changes are no problem either. Print on Demand means we produce the paper just when it is needed. Which means a substantial reduction in inventory and logistics costs,” reports Brugger.
Economical even on short runs “Océ Pagestream and CustomTone enable us to automate our print workflows. Every month, we print around 500 different documents each day, in varying combinations on blank white webs with a corporate logo and colour passages for all sections of the company,” explains Brugger. “It is immaterial whether we’re producing 50 or 50,000 documents of a kind”. With Océ CustomTone, swapping the toner couldn’t be easier: the operator simply changes the bottles over. There’s no soiling in or near the printer. There’s always an exact colour match, thanks to the toner ID number assigned by Océ to each unique corporate colour. |
